European project inHERE: recommendations to boost refugee’s access and integration to higher education in Europe have just been released

Researcher, Institutions

The recommendations of participants to the inHERE project to facilitate the integration of refugees in European higher education systems are now available.

The Erasmus+ project inHERE (Higher Education supporting refugees in Europe) – aiming at fostering the sharing of knowledge, mutual support between peers and academic partnerships to facilitate the integration of refugees in higher education systems in Europe – has developed a series of recommendation, defined during the implementation of the project and designed higher education institutions that participated in the activities of inHERE.

The European Union (EU), member States of the EU, international organisations and European institutions are carrying out a number of actions to improve access to higher education and integration in European societies for refugee students and researchers.

To improve and complete existing initiatives, participants who took part in activities of the inHERE project invite European societies and their policymakers to take long term actions, aiming at fostering the insertion of refugees in higher education systems, and an open and inclusive research. Refugees’ integration is a global challenge that cannot be faced only at local or national level, but must be considered at supranational level, such as European Union level for example, an entity with the power to speak up globally.

inHERE recommendations are downloadable in 4 different languages (English, French, Italian and Spanish) on the project website.

inHERE is implemented by a consortium including UNIMED (leader), Campus France, the European University Association (EUA), the University of Barcelona, the La Sapienza University in Rome, and UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) (associate partner).
