QS WORLD UNIVERSITY RANKINGS BY SUBJECT: FRENCH INSTITUTIONS STAND OUT

With three French institutions in the Top 5 and five in the Top 20, observers say that France has achieved a very high ranking in 2019 in the World University Rankings by Subject developed by Quacquarelli Symonds, a British ranking agency specialised in higher education.

Together with the Shanghai University Rankings and the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, The QS World University Rankings by Subject is one of the most renowned university rankings. The QS World University Rankings has just honoured in its Top 5 the following French institutions: INSEAD (the European Institute of Business Administration, which moved to 2nd place in the Business & Management Studies category), Sciences Po (which makes it to the podium for the first time, ranked 2nd in Politics & International Studies) and Agro Paris Tech (4th in Agriculture & Forestry).

Slightly further down in the rankings, five other French institutions have made it into the Top 20. First, HEC Paris School of Management, which ranked twice: 11th in the Business & Management Studies category and 17th in the Accounting & Finance category.

Also awarded twice, Université Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne came 18th in the Archaeology category and 20th in the Classics & Ancient History category. In the same category in 15th place is the new consortium Sorbonne University (Université Paris Pierre et Marie Curie and Université Paris Sorbonne).

The Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris (CNSMDP) comes 14th in the Performing Arts category, while in 20th place in the Mathematics category is Université PSL (Paris sciences et lettres, a university community that includes Université Paris Dauphine, the Ecole Normale Supérieure, Mines Paris Tech, Chimie Paris Tech, as well as several art schools).

The annual QS ranking, considered a gold standard in the field and closely scrutinised by companies and future employers, assesses more than 1,200 universities across 78 countries and 48 disciplines.
