What is the "Bienvenue en France" label?

Since the quality of our welcome for international students is a fundamental factor in the internationalization and attractiveness of our higher education system, the "Bienvenue en France" label is awarded by Campus France to institutions of higher education who seek to make their efforts more visible when it comes to improving their welcome for international students.

As part of the National Attractiveness Strategy, the "Bienvenue en France" label was launched in November 2018, with Campus France responsible for its implementation, management and coordination.

The Bienvenue en France label was created to encourage best practices within institutions of higher education and to guarantee the best possible welcome for international students.

Its mission is to attest to the quality of the institutions and their facilities, to support international students and to promote higher education in France.

Under the first version of the Label (2019-2023), 151 institutions were awarded the label by 13 labeling commissions between 2019 and 2023. 65% of international students studying in France are enrolled in a Bienvenue en France accredited institution (11% are accredited at Level 1, 67% at Level 2 and 22% at Level 3). The first Bienvenue en France report details, for each criterion and indicator, the levels achieved along with examples of exemplary practices.

A review of the responses to the indicators from 139 institutions awarded the label from 2019 to 2022 reveals the quality of reception facilities at French higher education establishments. There is, however, still room for improvement, not only for the institutions themselves, but for all other participants along the welcome chain.

"The Bienvenue en France label is a real added value with strong indicators of our institutions' ability to welcome visitors."

The agency pursues its mission of listening, promoting and supporting international institutions and students while taking into account major societal issues. The label is evolving along with the new needs of students and the global challenges ahead, which we all need to face together.

The Bienvenue en France label promotes policies for welcoming international students to French institutions of higher education. Based on a framework of six application criteria and 28 indicators, it gives recognition to institutions that develop and promote services for welcoming international students.

The 2023-2028 Bienvenue en France label incorporates an additional criterion for sustainable development and indicators identified at the label's first  professional day (Paris, Inalco, 16/06/2023) and in consultation with the Steering Committee.
