Paris Olympic Games 2024: missions open to young people and students

Students, Institutions

Some 500 days before the opening of the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games 2024, an exceptional mechanism to welcome spectators and secure the sites is being implemented. This system should engage thousands of people, both volunteers and professionals, young and students, public and private security agents.

In summer 2024, the Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in Paris. According to organisers’ estimates, with about 15 million spectators expected and thousands of athletes welcomed, this will be the biggest event ever organised in France. To welcome the public and ensure the proper organisation of sports events, two mechanisms are especially designed for young people and students.

Security missions

The first mechanism is supported by the ministry in charge of higher education and aims at recruiting 3,000 students to ensure security missions. “More than a mission, it’s an opportunity to be at the heart of the event, experiment the Paris Games at the closest” says the ministry, adding that an event security agent training is open for this mechanism. To prepare these new applicants to the private security sector, new means are implemented, including:

  • Paid 106 hours-long training (three weeks of training: two in-person, one remote) taught by Pôle Emploi (French job offers centre);
  • Receiving a professional card valid up to October 2025, after the training, offering the opportunity to be recruited for additional sports and cultural events.

To be noted that foreign national students may apply if they “prove a level of French language at equal to B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages”.

Call for volunteers

A second mechanism, broader and open to all, is implemented directly by Paris 2024, the organiser of the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games. The aim is to become a volunteer for the Paris Games 2024. Being a volunteer, says the organiser, is the “opportunity of a lifetime”, is “becoming the face of the Games and live from inside the first Summer Games organised in France in a century”. To be more precise, volunteering is an opportunity for young people to share “an intense adventure in teams” and experiment “special times and emotions” and meet people from all horizons. This initiative also allows to train and acquire an experience useful for the continuation of the training course of young volunteers.

In concrete terms, the volunteer programme includes several missions, all critical to the proper occurrence of the Games:

  • For the public: missions of reception, guidance, escort, information, and more.
  • For athletes: help to settle in, escorting athletes, entering sports information, and more.
  • For organisers: support to the process of accreditation, distribution of equipment, installing information devices.

All there is to live the special atmosphere of the Games to the fullest. Because, as Paris 2024 says, “volunteers are the first people the athletes and spectators meets when they arrive at the Games!”
