Official launch of the Franco-Tunisian University

Opening is planned for 2019

As part of his official visit in Tunisia from January 31 to February 1st, French president Emmanuel Macron announced the creation of a Franco-Tunisian University of Africa and the Mediterranean (UFTAM) granting French diplomas. The first trainings should start in 2019-2020.

The French Ministry for Education, Higher Education and Research stresses that the Franco-Tunisian university is "a new step in cooperation of excellence, complementary of the higher education offer currently existing in Tunisia and aims at a double target: to fight a skyrocketing unemployed rate among the young by improve their employability, and answer the needs of the Tunisian socio-economic backdrop."

As part of the presidential visit, a framework agreement has been concluded on February 1st between the Ecole normale supérieure Paris-Saclay and the Universities of Cartago, Gafsa, Tunis el Manar to create a "Franco-Tunisian College".
