Preparing for your arrival

Depending on your scholarship, an online form is available to prepare your arrival. Fill in the form as soon as possible to send Campus France all the information required to prepare your arrival: arrival details, accommodation request, etc.

The "Pass' Campus" and the welcome information leaflet

Before your departure, you will receive one or twi documents :

  • The "Pass Campus" will be emailed to you by Campus France,
  • The Welcome information leaflet will be given to you by the Cooperation and Cultural Action Department of the French Embassy.

If you receive these two documents, you will need to follow the Campus Pass instructions when you arrive at the airport in France.

The Pass Campus

This summary document contains information about your stay: welcome, accommodation, allowances, possible transfers, etc. It is sent to you when your stay has been anticipated and prepared by Campus France.

Pass Campus

We recommend that you read it carefully, print it out and keep it with you during your departure trip. You may be asked for it when you arrive.

Welcome information leaflet

This document is given by the French Embassy when you do not have a Campus Pass. It indicates your Campus France file number and allows your advisor to identify you quickly if you call from the airport, for example. It is your instruction manual for your first few hours in France and gives you the information you need to reach the city centre.

Notice d'accueil

As soon as you arrive at the airport, follow the instructions carefully.

Your visa

To stay in France and depending on your nationality, you must obtain a visa which will be issued by the French Consulate. The type of visa depends on the duration and nature of your stay.

As a scholarship holder of the French government, these procedures are facilitated but your status does not automatically entitle you to a visa.

We recommend that you complete your procedures as soon as possible, if you have not already done so.

The French Consulate in your country of residence will give you your visa before your departure, together with an information notice on the steps to follow in order to validate it. It contains important information to ensure that you are legally residing in France and to facilitate your administrative procedures. Please, read it carefully!

Your accomodation

If you have made a request through the online form in "Mon Espace Boursier, Campus France will offer you accommodation adapted to your situation, depending on the duration of your scholarship and the accommodation available. Our teams will do their best to find you accommodation that is close to your place of study and easily accessible by public transportation.

Accommodation offers

Campus France has a large network of hotels and public or private residences (CROUS) in Paris and in the provinces.

The choice of type of accommodation depends on the category and duration of your scholarship and on the actual availability at the time of your arrival, which will vary according to the time of the year and the city of your stay.

How to apply for accommodation?

You must make your own request through the online form in "Mon Espace Boursier". You can request accommodation for one or more nights, a few weeks, several months or a whole year. However, this period cannot be longer than the duration of your scholarship.

During the start of the academic year, student residences are quickly filled and only become available again in January. As a rule, we will only be able to make you one offer.

If your stay is short (less than 3 months)

Except for beneficiaries of a social security scholarship, you may be accommodated in a hotel or in a hotel residence.

The rate is calculated per night. Your contribution to the rent is deducted from your scholarship and will represent approximately one third of your scholarship. Campus France is responsible for paying rent to the hotel or residence. However, you must pay any personal expenses (meals, mini-bar, telephone, etc.)

If your stay is long (more than 3 months)

Campus France will offer you public university residences (CROUS) or private residences as a priority.

Public university residences

They belong to the CROUS (organisations that manage residences in each French region) and are exclusively reserved for students. They give priority to students who are staying for a full year. They are close to the university, the libraries and the university restaurant and offer furnished rooms or studios.

Rents are much cheaper than in private residences. Through Campus France, you will have easy access to the CROUS. You will have to pay your rent every month to your residence. You will be asked to pay a reservation fee when Campus France gives you the address of your accommodation.

The number of rooms available is limited, particularly in Paris. It is therefore important to send us your request as soon as possible. From October onwards, rooms are already occupied and it becomes more difficult to find one. Furthermore, it is CROUS decide on the placement and the type of accommodation you will be allocated in, taking into consideration your expressed wishes to the highest extent. If the accommodation is not suitable for you, we will not be able to offer you an alternative.

Private student residences

These are mainly fully equipped studios, and sometimes single rooms. Rents vary widely (from €280 to €700/month minimum and up to €600 to €1,200 in Paris).

If you look for your own accommodation

You will have to define and settle the contractual conditions of the rental (reservation, possible lease) as well as the financial conditions (payment of rent and deposit) with your landlord.

For more information on accommodation, please read the guide “Your accommodation”.

During the first few days of your arrival in France, you will have to pay important expenses yourself, such as a deposit for your accommodation, a comprehensive home insurance policy, etc. Plan your budget accordingly, your scholarship may not be enough.

The first payment of your scholarship

The first payment will be made in cash through a dedicated service (Western Union) as soon as you have confirmed your arrival in France by sending the person in charge of your stay in Campus France a copy of your passport mentioning your arrival date or your boarding pass.

Its delivery time is 3 to 5 working days.

We ask you to be particularly careful with the money you receive as Campus France cannot reimburse you in case of loss or theft.
