Month for Europe: digital events with the FGYO

The Franco-German Youth Office (FGYO) and its partners invite all young people to participate in a series of digital events throughout May 2020 to improve European solidarity.

Various European events had to be cancelled this year because of the lockdown, including the celebration of the 70 years of Robert Schuman’s declaration that led to the development of a new Europe, and celebrations planned for May 8th, day of remembrance of the end of World War II, that marked 75 years ending the war this year. Despite these downturns, the construction of Europe continues in May 2020 in various forms, and mostly digital.

Such events are all supervised by the FGYO, an international organization for Franco-German cooperation that helped millions of young people join exchange program since its creation.

The 31 ideas for Europe challenge

Since May 1st, young FGYO ambassadors lead a campaign called 31 ideas for Europe. Every day until the end of the month, on social networks, these young ambassadors publish interactive contents (quiz, videos, games) to foster European thinking in the broader sense.

How to be more eco-friendly?  What is town twinning in Europe for? How to communicate more easily at European scale? How is solidarity between generations organised? How is peace doing in Europe? Those are just a few questions asked to help “re-think our actions and ways of thinking, as both European males and females” said project initiators.

#DailyEuropeChallenge contest

From May 9 to 31, the FGYO also organises a challenge in cooperation with the Europe House in Paris and the Group for European citizens' service (GECS). Rules of the #DailyEuropeChallenge are simple: post on your social networks (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram) a photo, video or text (poetry, short story, newspaper, etc.) representing Europe in your daily life, and mention the #DailyEuropeChallenge hashtag.

At the end of May, a pre-selection will be made by a jury and be published on our respective social networks and the public will be invited to vote for the one they like best. The three participants who will have collected the most “likes” in each category will win the contest, and many prizes.
