L'Instant Recherche: just what you need to learn about research in France

All audiences

With 3,000 laboratories, 57,000 lecturer/researchers and 75,000 PhD students, universities are driving research in France. Because of this, the Conférence des Présidents d’Université (CPU) has launched "L'Instant Recherche": a free bimonthly newsletter dedicated to basic and applied research.

Every two months, this new CPU bulletin created with the network of university vice-presidents responsible for research and exploitation of findings provides "scientific expertise on social issues with insights given by research work carried out in laboratories. The topics covered have everyday relevance, are linked to current affairs and benefit from analysis and collective thinking from researchers.

Eclectic topics

Following the first edition of the newsletter, which came out last March and was devoted to private electric transportation, a subsequent issue of "L'Instant Recherche" was delivered in May and focused on "science to serve heritage". Coming after the Notre Dame fire, this edition discussed cathedral digitisation, material monitoring and the heritage narrative.

For the August issue themed around the sun, the CPU has prepared a seasonal topic with various questions. How does the sun influence our mood? How can we use solar energy? And, more generally, how can we define sun? Meanwhile, the next edition due in September will be dedicated to plastic.
