European Heritage Days: September 15 and 16, share art!

All audiences

“Art of Sharing” is the new theme of the 35th European Heritage Days held from September 15 and 16 in about 17,000 monuments and places of culture participating free of charge, all over France.

The French minister of culture, who supervises the project, said the European Heritage Daysoffer every year to all citizens a unique opportunity to discover or rediscover the monuments, buildings, gardens that made our history, our shared memory and the face of our territories”.

In practical terms, more than 20,000 events will be open to the public.

Free of charge and easily accessible, the events programmed this year are placed under the sign of the “art sharing”, a way to  “ponder on what unites us, what binds us”. For the organisers, “sharing heritage between Europeans during the European Heritage Days lead citizens to better understand what brings them together, sharing common historical and aesthetic values”.

The European Heritage Days were created in France and are now held in about 50 countries.

Beyond this unifying theme applied in all monuments of importance, the Heritage Days are also an opportunity in many higher education institutions, including universities, to open their collection and sites of memory to the public. Contact your institution’s Culture Department for more info.
