Emmanuel Macron has placed youth and student mobility at the heart of a renewed partnership between France and Kenya, in support of the new strategy for attracting international students.

At the end of his three day tour of East Africa, Emmanuel Macron addressed 500 students at the University of Nairobi. Recalling that the challenges faced by the continent of Africa are also the challenges of France, Emmanuel Macron gave his vision of a new relationship between France and Kenya.

“Welcome to France”

The ”Welcome to France” strategy was the core of his conversation with the students. Emmanuel Macron highlighted his willingness to change perceptions between France and Kenya, supported by the new strategy for attracting international students, launched by the government in November 2018.

Emmanuel Macron insisted on the importance of exchanges and cross-mobility between our two countries. He encouraged Kenyan students to learn French and to come and study in France, taking advantage of the Welcome to France strategy for Kenyan students. In response to students asking where to find information on this initiative, Emmanuel Macron directed students towards the Campus France website.

Lucas Wandera Bwire, E-Ambassador for Campus France and a doctoral student of art history at the university of Pau, was present among the Kenyan students invited to talk with Emmanuel Macron. He was able to talk about the research centre project that he is trying to establish in collaboration with both French and Kenyan university teams.
