Everything you wanted to know about Brexit!

How will Brexit impact (or not) higher education and research in France? Two FAQs published by the French ministry of higher education try to offer answers as clear as possible.

UK citizens chose by a vote in June 2016 to leave the European Union. As early as March 29, 2019, the decision will be in force, and the UK will not be a member State of the EU anymore, whether an agreement on withdrawal is reached or not.

“Until the UK leaves the EU, says the ministry, the country will continue to participate in all programs of the EU, including Horizon 2020.” But after this date, what are the consequences for France?

In terms of research and innovation, a dozen of questions were listed, from the future of Research projects as part of Horizon 2020, and the emergence of new tools for bilateral cooperation with the UK, or the consequences of Brexit on French researchers working in the UK and those who want to do so after March 2019.

As for higher education and student mobility, what will happen for French students? Most common and highly practical questions were listed. Among them; the future acknowledgement of ECTS credits, the level of registration fees, social security, internship opportunities and the future of higher education institutions implemented in the UK. Will they still be eligible to exchanges as part of the Erasmus+ program?
