Make Our Planet Great Again: 154 international awardees to arrive in France beginning in September 2018

154 international students, scholars, and scientists have been awarded funding following four calls for proposals under the French presidential initiative, Make Our Planet Great Again. The winners will begin arriving in France in September to pursue their research in sciences related to climate change and sustainability, the energy transition, and earth systems. 

An international jury convened by Campus France assessed more than 2,000 applications. Of the total, 55% were for doctoral funding, 25% for a master, 18% for a short period of research, and 2% for a postdoctoral fellowship.

The 154 awardees will come to France beginning in September to conduct research in fields linked to the challenges of climate change. They will be hosted by French institutions. 

  • 31% of the winners will pursue a master (12–24 months)
  • 44% will come for a short program (1–6 months)
  • 15% will earn a doctorate (36 months)
  • 10% will be in France as postdoctoral fellows (24 months)

Launched in 2017 by France’s President Emmanuel Macron, the Make Our Planet Great Again initiative has generated interest and enthusiasm around the world, attracting talented students and researchers to France. 

France’s Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation provide funding for MOPGA in the amount of €3.8 million for 2018–2020. Campus France manages the program. Host institutions provide partial cofinancing for awardees’ periods of study and research.
