Tourist numbers in France are growing... and student numbers too!

France is world champion for tourist destination. With a record number of 87 million international tourists in 2017, a 5.1% increase in one year, France is the world's most visited country. Some even take advantage of it and come to study and learn French!

The French ministry of economy and finance just released a keynote regarding numbers of tourism in France in 2017. The keynote is based on several studies, and shows that France is still the first tourist destination worldwide, with 87 million international tourists. France is followed by Spain (81.8 million international tourists) and the United States (73 million international tourists).

Comeback in force from European, American and Asian tourists

More precisely, the spike of international tourists in 2017 results from a pickup of arrivals from European tourists (plus 5.6%, +3.6 million), but also from travellers from the Americas (+6.7%) and Asia (+3.3%).

A destination for international students

The attractiveness of France also shows in the reception of international students.  France welcomes 325,000 international students (+12% growth over 5 years), and keeps its place of fourth major host country. France follows the US, the UK, Australia, and Germany. France is the world's first non English-speaking host country.

Visiting France and learning French

French language is the world's 2nd most learnt language, being spoken by 274 million speakers. Every year, about 125 million people are learning French, including 49 million in FLE course (French as Foreign Language).

Campus France supports this momentum, and designed the application Immersion France to promote linguistic tourism. The application allows to choose among 300 short stays mixing tourist exploration of French region and French classes. You can launch your research using several criteria: geographic (what region to discover?), academic (what language level to reach?), thematic (what activities to do during my stay?) ...
