The new Bienvenue en France communication campaign gives voice to those who have chosen France for their higher education. Each portrait traces the student's journey from his or her country to France, within their establishment and until the completion of their professional goals. Twenty alumni volunteered to carry a simple message: "I chose to study in France, what about you?".

"I chose Reunion Island for its diversity and climate." Originally from Antananarivo, Madagascar, Tahina does not hide her affection for the French overseas department, located more than 9,000 km from continental France. That's a good thing, because she is only an hour by plane from her native Madagascar.

After earning a Master 2 in computer science and drawn to research, Tahina enrolled in a PhD program at the University of Reunion Island's computer science and mathematics laboratory. For her dissertation, she developed innovative software that uses artificial intelligence to integrate electric vehicles into smart cities. It's no surprise that Tahina is a winner of the L'Oréal-Unesco For Women in Science Fellowship (2017).

Despite a busy schedule between the lab and home, this young researcher always finds time to take care of herself by dancing and strength training.
