The Night of Ideas: a debate on the biggest current challenges

“Facing our time” (“Face au présent”) is the theme of the 4th Night of Ideas (“Nuit des Idées”) held on January 31st, at the initiative of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs and the French Institute.

With 120 cities in France and worldwide and 70 countries, the Night of Ideas is “yearly event celebrating the stream of ideas and knowledge”.

What is the present made of?

Every player present at the Night of Idea will debate over the expression “Facing our Time” to draw an analysis of the challenges of our time. These challenges are organised around various themes ranging from male/female equality, environmental challenges, citizenship, solidarity, science and health, but also European authority, territories and stakes.

Where and what?

The 4th edition of the Night of Ideas, organised by the French Institute with a partnership with the Foundation of France this year, is deployed everywhere in France, and over the five continents. In France, entities as diverse as universities, Grandes Ecoles, research institutes, museums, cultural centres and theatres will be used as stage for the operation. Abroad, the French institutes and the “Alliances françaises” are invited to offer periods for valuated interactions. They will take the form of forums, round tables, and conferences, but also more cultural or recreational times: Readings, concerts, screenings or art performance.
