NAFSA 2022: the French Pavilion celebrates 20 years

A large delegation of higher education institutions driven by Campus France went to Denver to participate in the NAFSA Conference from 31 May to 3 June 2022 focused on the theme “Building our sustainable future”. Here’s a look back on this major event of meetings and exchanges in-person, where the France Pavilion celebrated 20 years of participation.

Meeting in Denver for players of higher education

A delegation driven by Campus France of about 100 representatives from 34 higher education institutions (10 universities, 15 business schools, 5 schools of engineering, 4 specialised schools) went to Denver from 31 May to 3 June to attend the international NAFSA Conference and answer the invitation of the 2022 edition: “Building our sustainable future”. They joined the teams of embassies of France and Campus France Offices in the US and Canada on the France Pavilion to promote the richness and excellence of French higher education.

French participants had a busy programme: workshops and conferences on the state of the international education market to bring together the thoughts of university players, face-to-face meetings to establish contacts and develop partnerships, and convivial events to facilitate exchanges with participants from the countries represented.

Highlights for France

France’s presence at NAFSA this year was marked by three highlights:

  • A Franco-Canadian networking event: organised by the French Embassy in Canada and EduCanada, a breakfast dedicated to Franco-Canadian university cooperation allowed institutions to network in a friendly atmosphere. With 1,200 cooperation agreements between French and Canadian institutions, there are strong links between the two countries in the field of higher education and research.
  • A workshop on “France’s impact on global higher education”: led by Adria L. Baker, Vice President for International Relations at Rice University, Sherif Barsoum, Vice President for Global Services at New York University, and Nathalie Cox, Head of Campus France USA, discussed the French education system, academic exchange models, scholarship programmes supporting transatlantic mobility, and post-pandemic opportunities.
  • The French Reception: organized by Campus France in the beautiful setting of the Ellie Caulkins Opera House in Denver at the close of the show, this traditionally highly anticipated moment for NASFA participants brought together 400 guests to celebrate France and the dynamism of its higher education.
