Financial Times’ ranking of Masters in Finance: France in the elite group

The Financial Times has just released its Masters in Finance ranking 2022, and the best are French! The ranking shows that French form what the FT calls an “elite group” for being once more present among the first top 5 positions of the ranking.

The Financial Times (FT), a British economic and financial newspaper, releases every year since 2018 a ranking of the best “pre-experience” Masters in Finance degrees (Masters course in initial training for students not yet on the labour market). Like last year, France wins it all.  The French “grandes écoles” take the top 5 positions of the ranking.

Unchanged ranking confirming the excellence of French schools

Among the 55 schools from all over the world analysed by the FT, the same French schools as last year reach the top positions. These five French “grandes écoles” are even ranked in the same order as in 2021, a way to confirm a certain excellence à la française in business.

Since 2018, with a few variations in the finish line, these top 5 French schools confirm their global leadership:

  • HEC Paris;
  • ESCP Business School;
  • SKEMA Business School;
  • ESSEC Business School;
  • EDHEC Business School.

In the wake of this fully French Top 5 are three European schools (in the United Kingdom and Spain), and a Chinese university and American university. However, two additional French schools are also present in this ranking. They are:

  • Rennes School of Business (23rd position, +1 position);
  • Grenoble Ecole de management (24th position).

High number of criteria

To design its ranking, the FT uses a high number of criteria, including:

  • the average salary three years after graduating;
  • the employment rate three month after graduating;
  • the cost of study/salary ratio of graduates;
  • the percentage of international students in the school;
  • the international mobility of students and the number of foreign teachers;
  • the percentage of women among students, but also teachers.
