 10,000 scholarships in France

Grants and financial aid, Brazil

An agreement is signed between CampusFrance and Brazil’s agencies for academic and scientific mobility in the presence of Mr. François Fillon, prime minister of France, and Mrs. Dilma Rousseff, president of the Federative Republic of Brazil.

In the course of the French prime minister’s visit to Brazil on December 14–17, Mr. Gérard Binder, chairman of the CampusFrance board, signed an agreement with Brazil’s agencies for academic and scientific mobility. The two agencies, CAPES and CNPq, were represented by their presidents. The agreement was signed in Brasilia on December 15.

The agreement deals with CampusFrance’s management of the French component of Brazil’s “Science without Borders” programme, under which 10,000 Brazilian students will receive scholarships over the next four years to pursue bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programmes at French institutions. Scholarships will be offered in the exact sciences, engineering, environmental sciences, and cultural industries.

Several existing programmes (BRAFITEC, BRAFAGRI, and CAPES COFECUB) will be strengthened to provide support for the new grantees.

At the beginning of January, CampusFrance, together with the conference of French university presidents (CPU), will release a report on the placement of the first cohort of Brazilian students in bachelor’s and master’s programmes beginning in September 2012. The report will include details on participation in the programme and on scholarship amounts.
