This list is provided as a rough guide and may vary from country to country.
1 - Passport
Your passport must be valid for the duration of your intended stay in France.
2 - Proof of admission
This proof can be a positive response to your preliminary admission application or a letter of admission from a public or private institution of higher education. The document must state the level of study and the discipline. Letters of admission from private institutions must specify the number of course hours and certify that tuition has been paid in full.
3 - Proof of financial support
The required level of financial resources is set by each French embassy. The amount is approximately €460 per month of stay in France. Scholarship recipients are required to provide a certificate on the letterhead of the granting organization stating the amount and the duration of the grant.
If financial support will be provided by a person residing in France, the student must furnish a signed statement of responsibility from the person, a photocopy of the guarantor's identity card, and proof of the guarantor's resources (e.g. the most recent tax assessment notice and three most recent pay sheets).
If financial support will be provided from abroad, the student must furnish proof of the opening of a bank account through which the funds must be transferred and a written commitment from the guarantor to deposit the funds, translated into French and bearing an authenticated signature. If the funds will come from the student's home government, the government must provide a letter to that effect.
Prospective students under 18 years of age must furnish written authorization from their parents or legal guardians.
4 - Vaccinations
If justified by the health situation in the student's home country, the consulate may require proof of vaccination against certain diseases (such as yellow fever and cholera) before granting a visa.
